THE SUPPLY OF COPYRIGHT TEXT TO UK HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN DIGITAL AND PAPER COURSEPACK FORMATS

Who are the customers?

Material is currently being copyright-cleared for the following Institutions for delivery in Sept/Oct 1999:

University of Huddersfield University of Derby
University of Birmingham Newcastle University
University of Bangor

Workshops and Training sessions have been held with these institutions prior to the initial release of the HERON system.

HERON has been received positively at these trial sites and the testing will be extended to more institutions for delivery of course material in the New Year. Currently the list is as follows:

University of Stirling Napier University
Southbank University Anglia University
University of the West of England Swansea University
Glasgow Caledonian Chester College
Kingston University Durham University
University of Leeds De Montford University
Abertay University Sheffield Hallam
Aberdeen RGU Oxford Computing
University of Sunderland University College,Northampton

We have also been approached by the Association of Business Schools.

 

What are the licensing arrangements?

HERON licence - this has been drawn up by the lawyers and is now subject to final review by the HE Partners. The licence covers Rightsholders and HEIs. It is intended that this will be distributed during October 1999. All licences will reside with Blackwell Retail Ltd.

PLS/CLA mandate - this has now been signed by over 800 publishers and we understand that most have not excluded any works. Full details are still awaited from the PLS.

HERON/CLA licence- this is in draft format and awaiting comment from the CLA lawyer. This licence will also reside with Blackwell Retail Ltd.

  1. Have you signed PLS mandate and if so have you excluded any works?
  2. If not, do you intend to sign and when?
  3. Do you have a digitisation strategy?
  4. Have you digitised any works to date – if so what are they?
  5. Will you deposit digitised works with HERON free of charge?
  6. HERON will be producing its own mandate shortly – to whom should this be sent?
  7. Contact names for electronic texts and permissions?
  8. Are you interested in receiving quotes for digitisation - contact name?
  9. Are you interested in buying advertising space on the HERON system – contact name?
  10. Are you interested in buying advertising space in printed paper coursepacks – contact name?
