SCOPE - a brief overview
The project was part of the Electronic
Libraries Programme (eLib), established by the Joint
Information Systems Committee (JISC) following recommendations of the Follett Report
of 1993 on the use of information technology in university libraries. The aim was to use
IT to improve delivery of information through increased use of electronic library services.
The Project ran from April 1995 to July 1998. These pages are kept active for research and information purposes.
SCOPE was a consortium of 13 Scottish higher education institutions, including all but one of the Scottish universities. The lead site was the University of Stirling which houses the Copyright Unit; its partner was Napier University, Edinburgh where the Technical Unit was based. The system has been developed to ensure a high level of copyright protection during online document delivery.
